The material world has always preferred sheep.
Not because sheep are weak.
But because sheep are easier to direct.
Governments seek them.
Corporations market to them.
Ideologies recruit them.
Crowds reward them.
The greatest form of control is often not force.
It is voluntary conformity.
Yet there is another kind of sheep.
The one who willingly submits—not to another person, institution, or ideology—but to their own conscience, discipline, and principles.
That is not surrender.
That is self-government.
To master oneself is very different from allowing others to master you.
The first creates independence.
The second creates dependence.
A person who cannot govern their own thoughts, emotions, and actions will eventually be governed by someone else’s.
Perhaps the paradox is this:
The only sheep worth becoming is a sheep to your own highest principles.
Only then can you become a lion in the material world.
Not a lion who dominates.
Not a lion who intimidates.
But one who stands independently.
One who is not easily manipulated by fear, fashion, propaganda, or approval.
The material world may continue searching for sheep.
The greatest act of freedom may simply be choosing who, if anyone, deserves your obedience.
And perhaps the answer is found within.
