Everything begins with a choice.
Every thought.
Every word.
Every action.
Individuals make choices.
Families make choices.
Communities make choices.
Nations make choices.
Some choices are made from love.
Others are made from fear.
Some are made from conscience.
Others are made from greed, pride, or the desire for power.
A person—or a nation—may appear to prosper by deception, manipulation, or force.
History contains many examples of civilizations that accumulated wealth, influence, and power through conquest, exploitation, or dishonesty.
For a time, those choices may seem successful.
But history also shows that actions often leave consequences that outlast the generation that made them.
Later generations frequently inherit both the achievements and the burdens of those who came before.
Debt.
Conflict.
Distrust.
Division.
Or wisdom.
Compassion.
Justice.
And peace.
The inheritance depends upon what was planted.
